The annual Ramadan bazaar hosted at Kampong Gelam will be back from Mar. 15 to Apr. 16, 2023.
Besides more than 100 food and retail booths, visitors can also look forward to light shows, performances, and a charity drive.
What to expect
Over 100 food and retail booths
Kampung Gelam will feature food trucks and outdoor grills among over 86 different food stalls.
Hungry visitors can expect a wide variety of food, from local delights like satay, seafood, and kuih raya to more modern options such as hotdogs.
A two-storey mezzanine provides a seating area for those who prefer to eat their food without roving.
Weaved between various F&B zones are 23 retail booths that will be selling modern arts, traditional crafts, and clothes by independent artists or artisans.
Both food and retail booths are available daily throughout the bazaar period, with the concrete line-up to be announced closer to the date.
Music and light shows
Visitors can check out the two types of light shows, scheduled for the end of the week.
The first is a projection show on the facade of Masjid Sultan, where onlookers can immerse themselves in illuminated scenes of Kampong Gelam’s evolving arts and culture.
This will run from Fridays to Sundays during the bazaar.
The second, an aerial light show, will be available on Fridays and Saturdays.
Catch sight of drone-controlled LED kites over the event ground (Sultan Gate), with micro light installations to complement them.
More details on the line-up will be released closer to the date as well.
Accompanying the light shows is a mainstage right by the Baghdad Street carpark, where visitors can soak in performances by singers, traditional and modern dances, and live dialogues.
Mass Iftar and charity drive
On Apr. 1, One Kampong Gelam will also be holding a Mass Iftar along Arab Street.
Attendees can purchase tables in advance for their own Iftar, or pay it forward for beneficiaries of the Mosque Sultan Community Chest and Jalan Besar GRC.
Additionally, coinciding with Qiyamullail (night prayers) over the last ten days of Ramadan, there will be collection points at 45 Sultan Gate where visitors can donate clothes, non-perishable foods, and home essentials.
All collected items will reach the less fortunate beneficiaries at the end of Ramadan.
