Get In My Food Bazaar

Naomi Scott beauty interview

After a star turn as a head-strong, ambitious Princess Jasmine in Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin and starring alongside Rupert Friend in Anatomy Of A Scandal, Naomi Scott is discovering that the world is hers for the taking. Not one to be pigeonholed (her early career stints involved a girl band, teen musicals and a Power Rangers remake, after all), you can expect to see Scott gracing the big screen this year in Distant, a science-fiction comedy with Anthony Ramos and Zachary Quinto, while Aladdin 2 is also in the works. But while Scott’s projects see the British actress jet-setting across continents, it’s the scent of home that truly brings her joy.

“It always comes back to food,” Scott tells Bazaar UK from LA. “My mum’s curry or when she cooks her dhal – there’s something about it that makes me feel comforted. If I’m somewhere and I smell Indian food, I feel at home.” Clearly, a well-cooked meal is a love language Scott responds to. “If your mum or someone is cooking for you, it’s a way they show their love,” she demurs. That said, her preferred perfume is more floral than spice – but no less delicious. She’s reprising her role as the face of Chloé Nomade’s latest addition, the Jasmin Naturel Intense, a plush white floral fragrance that’s kind on her sensitive skin as well as a magnet for compliments.

Ahead, Scott shares her low-key approach to beauty, the celebrity make-up brand she’s never without, and why great sex is the ultimate glow-giver.

On what beauty is to her…

“When someone’s at peace with themselves and fully accepts who they are. There can be moments of insecurities, which we all have as humans, but at the core, being at peace with one self. That’s the most beautiful thing.”

On the ‘less is more’ aesthetic…

“Seeing skin is very sexy; not hiding every imperfection. My make-up routine is just about accentuating my features. I do my eyebrows and I’ll do a little eyeliner with Rare Beauty’s eyeliner, which is dope. It’s just to accentuate the shape of my eye – it’s the smallest flick of cat eye. Then I’ll use Givenchy lip liner in Moka Renversant – it’s a deeper version of my lip colour – and I’ll dab on a Bobbi Brown lipstick in Bold Honey, which gives it a bit of shimmer. It’s timeless and still feels natural.”

On her minimalist skincare routine…

“Simplicity is key. I use the Haeckels face wash and moisturiser. It works very well for me. If I’m feeling extra dry, I’ll use the exfoliator. I do the same thing in the evening. I’ve also just got a quartz roller to help get the blood flowing.”

On tips from make-up artists…

“I’ve learnt to understand what tones work for my skin and what products work best for me. I’m more likely to use a light foundation, like MAC Face & Body, and I really like using colours that are in my skin tone; I use warmer tones, never any cold colours or anything that has a blue or pink undertones. I lean into the browns.”

On her fragrance ritual…

Chloé Nomade Jasmin Naturel Intense is strong enough for me to wear every day but it’s also really fresh and floral. I don’t put a lot of things on my skin as I’m really sensitive so I either spray it on my clothes or mist it in the air and walk through it.”

On water therapy…

“My husband [English footballer Jordan Spence] and I like going to plunge pools and saunas. It’s so good for your health; it lowers inflammation. We do an infrared sauna where you’re in there for 10-15 minutes and then you do the ice bath for two minutes. The first time is really hard but once your body gets used to it, it’s really great. It helps you sleep better.”

On effortless hairstyling…

“Short hair feels more like me. I can’t tell you why, but that’s how I feel. I’ll just blow-dry the fringe and let the rest of the hair dry naturally. It [like to style the] fringe to frame my face. Now that my hair’s a bit longer, I just pull it back with a middle parting.”

On working with Chloé…

“They really do walk the walk in terms of being a B-Corp brand, and their intentions when it comes to sustainability are really rooted in the DNA of the brand. I’ve always loved Chloé: I love how they march to the beat of their own drum. I love the smell of the perfume and that it’s vegan. I wear it every day and I literally always get comments on it. My male friends love it and have started wearing it too; it’s not just for women.”

On sex as the ultimate glow-giver…

“I feel the most beautiful during sex, good sex. I genuinely think there’s something so beautiful about it.”
