Based in a city boasting 55 Michelin stars for its restaurants, Singapore Airlines knows a thing or two about good cuisine – and about the value of bringing in the experts.
When you step aboard the world’s best airline, a culinary treat awaits. There are multiple-course menus and Book the Cook dishes imagined by top chefs, as well as favourites inspired by Singapore’s top hawker markets, and Air Sommeliers to recommend just the right pairing. This is an airline that takes its food seriously.
Behind the airline’s finest curated dishes is the International Culinary Panel, a team of five celebrated chefs from China, Japan, India, France and Australia. From the master of French cuisine Georges Blanc through to celebrated TV chef Sanjeev Kapoor and MasterChef Australia judge Matt Moran, each one crafts dishes that are packed with seasonal ingredients and carefully created to be enjoyed at altitude.
With the Book the Cook service, you can reserve fine-dining options that wouldn’t otherwise be available on board, from Kapoor’s Shahi Thali through to Yoshihiro Murata’s multi-course Hanakoireki meal, a celebration of seasonal produce and Japanese flair. This gourmet service is available for most destinations and all premium tickets, including suites, first class, business class, and premium economy, just book at least 24 hours prior to your flight, or 48 hours for specific destinations.
Providing the perfect accompaniment to your multi-course meals is a selection of wines chosen by some of the world’s leading sommeliers. Unparalleled wine authority Oz Clarke, Australian wine judge Michael Hill Smith and Asia’s first Master of Wine Jeannie Cho Lee put each bottle to the test in the skies. And it is this rigorous testing process that has led to Singapore Airlines’ extensive collection of Cellar in the Sky awards, including five gold medals in 2022, including the coveted ‘Best Overall Cellar In The Sky’.
In August 2021, the Singapore Showcase was launched to offer an insight into Singapore’s unique hawker market culture, recognised as a piece of Intangible Cultural Heritage by Unesco since 2020. The airline is working with some of the city’s leading hawker brands to offer representative menus on flights coming in or out of Singapore.
And as an added facility, passengers can preview their food, drink and snack menus up to eight days before their flights, via the digital menu. The menu will also highlight any regulatory restrictions that could impact the availability of meals on board.
Another fascinating service comes from the Air Sommeliers, the highly trained wine connoisseurs on board every flight who are responsible for finding the perfect pairings for each dish and keeping each wine at the perfect serving temperature. They’ll make recommendations and answer any questions you may have.
Across all flights and classes, Singapore Airlines goes the extra mile to ensure all culinary experiences exceed expectations. Flying economy class? You’ll enjoy a choice of three meals on long-haul flights or two on flights under three-and-a-half hours. There’ll always be one western choice and one regionally inspired dish to help you get excited about your trip or extend the memories of your stay.
If you’re celebrating a birthday or anniversary, pre-book a cake to make the journey extra special. And if you have special dietary requirements, you can travel with complete peace of mind. Simply take your pick from the list of special meals available and pre-order your food 48 hours before your flight.
With a panel of leading chefs, sommeliers in the sky and dishes that celebrate the cuisines of the world, Singapore Airlines has elevated the journey to make it just as exciting as each destination. You’ll always enjoy a multi-course menu, fine wines and Singapore Airlines’ signature service, and if you treat yourself to an upgrade, a host of incredible culinary experiences await. It’s all part of the journey when you travel with the world’s best airline, as awarded by Skytrax 2023.
